                           Websites review

Duo-Lingo and OLI (Open Learning Initiative) were two of the online sites that we tried. Both sites are great for building your knowledge on the subject you are trying, learning and building studying skills, and helping to understand French, However they both have their pros and cons.

Duo-Lingo:

Duo-Lingo was the first one we tried and it was really helpful, fun, and we were engaged in it. Duo-Lingo is it gives you questions and you have to pick the right answer from the choices it gives you. You have 4 lives and every time you get the wrong answer you lose a life. However the only problem with Dou-Lingo is that it can be frustrating because you could be on the last question with no lives left and you get it wrong and you have to do that whole level over again. Duo-lingo you did speaking, listening, typing and picking the answer that best fits the sentence.

OLI (Open Learning Initiative):

OLI was the next one we tried, it was also a good way to get more knowledge on the subject, learning and building study skills, and helping to understand French. However OLI wasn’t as great as it should be because it is a University site. It was engaging to learn with but you couldn’t lose a life. With Duo-Lingo you could so everyone was actually trying to get them all right and really trying to learn what Duo-Lingo was offering. With OLI you could just skip a level if you didn’t know what the answer was so it isn’t really learning but some of the tips they give you before they test you are good for learning. Also to use OLI you almost have to be a fluent talker in French and now where all the accents go and how to spell the word in French, because if you didn’t perfectly get the answer without any mistakes then it would say it is wrong. OLI also gives you the answer after three times of getting it wrong so it doesn’t allow you to think when it gives you the answer. It also give you the option to skip, so it isnt really learning it is more like do the questions that you know and just skip the ones that you don’t know.

What One is better?

Out of the two of them I liked Dou-Lingo better than OLI. Everyone does have their own preference on what website is better and everyone likes different things about the site. For OLI I give it a 2/5 and for Duo-Lingo I give it a 4/5. Duo-Lingo could have had a little better accuracy in the talking sections and the listening and having to type what they were saying, the talking could have been clearer and not all bunched together like a computer talks. OLI needs a lot of improvements especially with the accuracy of the spelling and adding the accents.

There are different ways to writting French accents on a keyboard, ut everyone has there own preference on their way in getting the french accents.

-Go to start menu (bottom left hand corner). Then go to programs, then accessories, then system tools then click Character map. the Character map will pop up then you scrool thhrougha dn pick the desired accent copy and paste it to were you want the accent to be placed.

-You can also google forthe french accents codes, this way is a little harder to remember all the codes but after a while you would start to memorize the codes and be able to do it faster.
-Push ALT key+0233=é
                            +0224=à
                            +0232=è
                            +0234=ê
